An Unmarried Woman
ComedyDramaRomance124 min
A Manhattan wife’s settled life breaks apart when her husband suddenly leaves, forcing her to face middle age on her own for the first time in years. As Erica tries to steady herself, she has to rethink money, friendship, sex, and the role marriage has played in defining her. The film follows her through awkward dates, hard conversations, and the daily shock of starting over while people around her offer advice she may not want. Jill Clayburgh centers Erica’s shifting sense of self as she moves between anger, loneliness, freedom, and the possibility of a different kind of relationship. Paul Mazursky keeps the focus on what divorce changes in private as much as in public.
