In a working-class family that expects him to settle into the local steel mill, Daniel “Rudy” Ruettiger holds on to one goal: play football for Notre Dame. He is undersized, short on money, and his grades put the school itself out of reach, so getting near the team means first finding a way into the university. As setbacks pile up, Rudy keeps taking the smallest opening he can find, from campus jobs to practice-squad work, hoping effort can make up for what he lacks on paper and on the field.
