Duck Soup
ComedyMusicalWar69 min
When bankrupt Freedonia installs Rufus T. Firefly as its president-dictator, the country stumbles toward war with neighboring Sylvania over the attentions of wealthy widow Mrs. Teasdale. Groucho Marx is Firefly, firing off insults, decrees, and cigar smoke with the same confidence, while Margaret Dumont’s Mrs. Teasdale tries to keep the government afloat. Around them, Harpo and Chico Marx turn diplomacy into sabotage, courtroom logic into nonsense, and military buildup into one long chain of gags, songs, and political farce set in a made-up nation that looks only slightly less ridiculous than the people running it.
