The Staircase
CrimeDocumentaryDrama49 min per episode
After Kathleen Peterson is found dead at the bottom of a staircase, novelist Michael Peterson is charged with her murder, and the case turns into a long fight over what happened inside their home. The series follows the trial as prosecutors build a case around blood evidence and the shape of the scene, while Peterson and his defense team insist her death was an accident. As hearings and testimony pile up, the focus shifts from one night to the way a murder case is constructed in court. Directed by Jean-Xavier de Lestrade, the documentary stays close to the defense as the legal battle tightens around Peterson.
