Jane Fonda is Barbarella, a space traveler for the United Earth government dispatched into the far future to find scientist Durand Durand before his new weapon can threaten humanity. The mission sends her through a bizarre succession of encounters, where allies, enemies, and assorted oddballs keep pulling her off course. John Phillip Law and Anita Pallenberg are among the unusual figures in her path, with Milo O'Shea and Marcel Marceau turning up along the way. Roger Vadim's 1968 film leans into comic-book sci-fi, ornate pop-art production design, and a playful streak of sexual fantasy.
