In late-1970s Venice Beach, Terry falls for local skating standout Bobby and gets pulled into a fight over the future of her favorite rink. Linda Blair is Terry, an upper-class teen drawn into the boardwalk roller-disco scene, while Jim Bray's Bobby brings her into a crew of skaters trying to stop a mobster from taking the land beneath the rink. As their romance takes shape, the battle over the rink collides with the build-up to the Boogie Contest, with the story moving through California boardwalk hangouts, roller routines, and the disco-era skating craze.
