A lonely jazz musician buys a woman who has spent years asleep in a carnival sideshow and brings her back to his mansion. Zalman King is the man at the center of this strange arrangement, trying to make the comatose woman, Carol White, part of what he calls his cabinet of sexual curiosities. As the two begin to form a connection, the story moves from carny spectacle into a private world shaped by fixation, fantasy, and control, with Tisa Farrow and Richard Pryor appearing around the edges of his carefully constructed life.
