I, Daniel Blake
Drama100 min
Dave Johns is Daniel Blake, a widowed carpenter in Newcastle upon Tyne who, after a heart attack, is told by his doctor he can’t work but finds himself trapped in a benefits system that insists otherwise. As he navigates assessments, appeals, and call-center scripts, he meets Katie, a single mother newly arrived from London. Hayley Squires’s Katie is trying to keep her two children housed and fed after an eviction leaves them in the same bureaucracy Daniel is fighting. Ken Loach keeps the focus on the daily grind of forms, offices, and rules, and on the friendship that grows between two people pushed to the edge by contemporary Britain’s welfare system.
