Alex Kendrick is John Harrison, a high school basketball coach whose season disappears overnight, leaving him reluctantly reassigned to cross-country. At the urging of school principal Olivia (Priscilla C. Shirer), he begins training a runner who seems like the least likely contender for the year’s biggest race. As John adjusts to a sport he doesn’t know and tries to guide a student through the demands of competition, the film keeps its focus on school life, coaching, and the way a sudden setback pushes him to question his own sense of purpose.
