In 1960s Iowa, Francesca Johnson’s quiet routine is interrupted when a National Geographic photographer arrives looking for the county’s covered bridges. Meryl Streep is Francesca, a farm wife whose chance meeting with Clint Eastwood’s Robert Kincaid opens into an intimate, four-day connection that unsettles the life she knows. Directed by Eastwood, the film stays close to small details — kitchen talk, drives through the countryside, the hush of borrowed time — as two middle-aged strangers find themselves facing desire, timing, and the cost of choosing differently.
