A charming con man gets out of prison and immediately goes back to work, drifting through Paris with a new scheme always ready. He lies, impersonates, flatters, and improvises his way into money and trouble, turning every close call into the start of another hustle. When his path crosses a determined young probation officer, she tries to pin him down to an honest life, but he treats supervision as just one more obstacle to outwit. As his scams grow bolder, romance, pursuit, and the threat of another arrest keep closing in. Jean-Paul Belmondo and Geneviève Bujold are folded into a cat-and-mouse story where every promise may be another trick.
