Bye Bye Tiberias

Documentary82 min

Thirty years after leaving her Palestinian village to build a life as an actress in Europe, Hiam Abbass returns with her daughter, filmmaker Lina Soualem, to ask what that departure meant for the family she left behind. Moving between the village and the women who shaped them both, the film follows conversations with Abbass’s mother, grandmother, and sisters as Soualem questions her mother’s choices, her distance from home, and the family history that surrounds them. The result is an intergenerational portrait of mothers and daughters, memory, and a life split between one village and elsewhere.
