They Came Together
ComedyRomance84 min
When a corporate candy company moves to wipe out a small independent sweet shop, employee Joel and store owner Molly meet as enemies, not soul mates. Paul Rudd's Joel is tied to the development threatening Amy Poehler's Molly, whose shop has become the latest target of big-business expansion. Their clash follows the familiar shape of a romance, but David Wain pushes every beat into broad parody, from awkward meet-cutes to outsized declarations and sudden complications. Cobie Smulders and Bill Hader are among the many faces turning up around Joel and Molly as the movie spoofs the machinery of the modern rom-com.
