Panama Hattie
ComedyMusical79 min
At a nightclub in the Panama Canal Zone, singer Hattie Maloney keeps the show moving while sailors and spies drift in and out between numbers. Ann Sothern is Hattie, a good-hearted headliner whose latest romance involves a naval officer, even as a trio of comic sailor pals keeps stumbling into the surrounding intrigue. Red Skelton is part of that rowdy escort, with the plot juggling backstage confusion, wartime business, and nightclub spectacle. The film folds Cole Porter songs into the action, and Lena Horne appears in an early screen performance.
