Rainbow Randolph, the corrupt host of a hit children’s TV show, is fired in a bribery scandal and replaced by Sheldon Mopes (Edward Norton), a stubbornly decent performer inside the Smoochy the Rhino suit. As Smoochy becomes the network’s new sensation, Robin Williams’ Randolph spirals into a vendetta, turning the world of kiddie entertainment into a maze of payoffs, sabotage, and backroom deals. Catherine Keener’s network executive is drawn toward the new star just as Randolph starts plotting his comeback, and the candy-colored TV setting keeps colliding with increasingly meaner schemes behind the scenes.
