The New World
DramaRomance135 min
As English settlers establish Jamestown in 17th-century Virginia, explorer John Smith (Colin Farrell) is caught between the colony’s struggle to survive and its uneasy contact with the Powhatan people. In that charged first encounter, he forms a bond with Pocahontas, with Q’Orianka Kilcher at the center of the story. Terrence Malick follows the founding of the settlement through shifting alliances, mistrust, and negotiations between chiefs, soldiers, and settlers, keeping the focus on the collision between conquest and intimacy in an unfamiliar land.
