After bad breakups, two women on opposite sides of the Atlantic trade homes for Christmas and end up stepping into each other’s lives. Cameron Diaz is Amanda, an American who escapes to a cottage in the English countryside, while Kate Winslet’s Iris heads for Amanda’s Los Angeles house. In England, Amanda meets Iris’s brother Graham (Jude Law); in L.A., Iris finds an unexpected connection with film composer Miles, and an ally in Arthur (Eli Wallach), an aging screenwriter. Nancy Meyers frames the swap around snowy villages, bright California sun, and the complications that come with trying to start over far from home.
