Will Freeman is a well-off London bachelor who has built his life around charm, leisure, and avoiding responsibility. After inventing an imaginary son to meet single mothers, Hugh Grant's Will is drawn into the orbit of Marcus, an awkward 12-year-old whose troubles at school and at home keep spilling over. Nicholas Hoult gives Marcus a blunt, earnest presence, while Toni Collette is his mother, Fiona, who is struggling to keep things together. What starts as a cynical ruse turns into an unlikely friendship, with Will trying to teach Marcus how to fit in as Marcus forces Will to reckon with adulthood.
