Meredith Morton heads to Connecticut for Christmas with her boyfriend, Everett Stone, expecting a family introduction and finding a house full of sharp opinions, old routines, and instant scrutiny. Sarah Jessica Parker’s tightly wound Meredith barely lasts a day with Everett (Dermot Mulroney), his outspoken mother Sybil, and the rest of the affectionate, free-spirited Stone clan before every dinner conversation turns into a test. When Meredith calls in her sister Julie (Claire Danes) for backup, the holiday visit gets even more tangled, exposing old family tensions and stirring second thoughts about where the relationship is headed.
