Sex, Lies, and Videotape
Drama101 min
Ann is drifting through a strained marriage and into counseling while her husband, John, is secretly sleeping with her sister. Andie MacDowell’s Ann has settled into a numb routine until John’s old friend Graham (James Spader) arrives with a stack of videotapes and an unusual habit: interviewing women about their sex lives. Peter Gallagher and Laura San Giacomo round out the tense quartet as confessions, infidelity, and voyeurism begin to shift the balance between all four. Steven Soderbergh’s 1989 debut keeps its attention on conversation, discomfort, and the way intimacy can turn into performance.
