In 1977 San Fernando Valley, nightclub busboy Eddie Adams is pulled into the adult-film world when producer Jack Horner spots his potential and gives him a new name: Dirk Diggler. Mark Wahlberg is Eddie, a teenager whose sudden fame comes wrapped in disco glamour, drugs, and a growing sense of family among performers, crew, and hangers-on. Burt Reynolds’ Jack runs the operation with old-school showman confidence and a belief that porn can be something more than quick product. Paul Thomas Anderson tracks that scene as the late-’70s boom gives way to the harder, cocaine-soaked turn of the 1980s.
