At Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Private Barry Winchell begins a relationship with Calpernia Addams, a transgender nightclub performer he meets off base, and finds that the attention surrounding them follows him back into Army life. Troy Garity is Barry, a young soldier trying to hold onto a private connection inside a rigid, hostile environment, while Lee Pace's Calpernia brings both glamour and vulnerability to their scenes together. Drawn from a true story, the film moves between barracks routine and late-night club performances as gossip, harassment, and pressure within Barry's unit begin to close in.
