Cocky Navy lawyer Lt. Daniel Kaffee is assigned to defend two Marines accused of killing a fellow soldier at Guantanamo Bay, but the court-martial starts to point past the men on trial and toward an unofficial hazing ritual known as a Code Red. Tom Cruise's Kaffee is paired with Demi Moore's Lt. Cmdr. JoAnne Galloway, whose push to challenge the official story keeps the case moving up the chain of command. As their defense brushes against Col. Nathan Jessep (Jack Nicholson), military law, rank, and loyalty become as central as the murder charge itself.
