Black Narcissus

Drama101 min

Sister Clodagh leads a group of Anglican nuns to a remote palace high in the Himalayas, where they’re meant to open a school and hospital in punishing, isolating conditions. Deborah Kerr is the young superior trying to keep the mission intact as the setting starts to work on everyone differently. Kathleen Byron’s Sister Ruth becomes increasingly drawn to Mr. Dean, the government worker nearby, while Clodagh finds old memories of love surfacing alongside the strain of religious duty. Flora Robson also appears as the stern Sister Philippa, part of a community unsettled by altitude, climate, and the palace itself.
