In 1970s Venice Beach, three teenage surfers turn empty backyard pools into a new kind of skate park and become the Z-Boys, the crew that helped reshape modern skateboarding. John Robinson is Stacy Peralta, skating alongside Emile Hirsch’s Jay Adams and friend Tony Alva as local contests turn their rough, surf-driven style into a business. As attention and sponsorships build, the bond that held them together starts to strain, folding friendship, rivalry, and the early commercialization of the sport into the rise of Southern California skate culture.
