Matthew McConaughey is Dirk Pitt, a former Navy SEAL turned treasure hunter chasing rumors of a vanished Confederate ironclad somewhere in West Africa. With his wisecracking partner Al (Steve Zahn), he heads into the desert looking for the long-lost ship and the treasure said to be inside it. Their search collides with Dr. Eva Rojas, a WHO doctor trying to trace a deadly outbreak while staying ahead of a warlord and the violence around him. Penélope Cruz brings Eva into a story that mixes Civil War legend, desert pursuit, and a mystery stretching from Mali’s sands to the water.
