The Tale of Zatoichi

Shintarô Katsu is Zatoichi, a blind masseur and gambler whose arrival in a yakuza-controlled village puts him in the middle of a gang war waiting to break open. As two rival factions maneuver for advantage, one side brings in Ichi while the other turns to an ailing ronin, setting up a standoff shaped as much by pride and obligation as by force. The story moves through dice games, roadside encounters, and tense negotiations before giving way to sudden sword fights, with Katsu’s Zatoichi coming across as observant, understated, and far more dangerous than he first appears.
