Mommy Dead and Dearest
CrimeDocumentary82 min
After Dee Dee Blanchard is found murdered, suspicion turns toward her daughter, Gypsy Rose Blanchard, whose public image as a chronically ill child living under her mother’s care hid a far darker home life. Through interviews with Gypsy Rose, relatives including Rod Blanchard, and people close to the case, the film pieces together a story of child abuse, control, mental illness, and an online relationship with Nicholas Godejohn. What begins as a murder investigation opens into the collapse of a mother-daughter narrative that many people around them had accepted at face value.
