Just Mercy

CrimeDocumentaryDrama137 min

Michael B. Jordan is Bryan Stevenson, a young Harvard-educated lawyer who heads to Alabama in the late 1980s to defend poor inmates on death row. One of his first major cases is Jamie Foxx’s Walter McMillian, a man sentenced to die for murder despite evidence that points to his innocence. As Stevenson challenges the conviction, he runs into hostile courts, compromised testimony, and the open racism shaping the legal system around him. The case becomes a larger fight over who gets heard, who gets protected, and what justice looks like when the state has already decided the outcome.
