He notices details others miss and follows lines of thought that put him at odds with superiors, even as each case pulls him deeper into the class tensions and private lives behind the city’s polished surface. As Morse gains experience and rank, the job asks for more than deduction: loyalty inside the department, judgment under pressure, and the nerve to keep digging when the simplest answer does not fit.
