In West Yorkshire’s Calder Valley, police sergeant Catherine Cawood keeps order in a community where drug abuse, violence, and old grudges keep spilling into daily life. Her work turns personal when a local kidnapping plot begins to unravel and points toward Tommy Lee Royce, a man tied to the family tragedy that still shadows her home. As Catherine pushes the investigation forward, she is also raising her grandson and trying to hold together a family strained by grief, addiction, and anger. Sarah Lancashire anchors a story where routine police work, buried resentments, and one dangerous obsession keep colliding.
