After slaughtering his family and taking a new identity, Terry O'Quinn is a man fixated on building the “perfect” household from scratch. He settles into suburban life with widow Susan (Shelley Hack) and her teenage daughter, Stephanie, presenting himself as a polite, dependable new husband and stepfather. But Jill Schoelen’s Stephanie is unsettled by his rehearsed warmth and sudden flashes of anger, and her suspicion grows as his past threatens the life he’s carefully arranged. The film turns domestic routine into something brittle and menacing, with O’Quinn’s calm, ordinary manner doing much of the damage.
