Declared sane after years in an institution, Norman Bates returns to the Bates Motel and tries to build an ordinary life in the shadow of his past. Anthony Perkins is back as Norman, moving into the old house, taking a diner job, and struggling to keep his routines intact while Vera Miles's Lila Loomis fights his release and watches him closely. The motel is run down, the town hasn’t forgotten, and a friendship with a young waitress (Meg Tilly) gives Norman a fragile connection to the outside world. Then the phone rings, the house stirs, and familiar voices begin to creep back into his life.
