After a late-night encounter turns dangerous, Adrian Pasdar is Caleb, an Oklahoma farm boy infected by Mae (Jenny Wright), a young woman tied to a nomadic vampire clan roaming the highways in stolen cars. Cut off from his family and unable to face daylight, Caleb is forced onto the road with a group that survives through blood, violence, and constant movement from one small town and roadside stop to the next. Kathryn Bigelow frames the story with dust, neon, motels, and empty back roads, giving its vampire myth a rough American landscape instead of old-world shadows.
