Wealthy gadabout Chris Thorne agrees to drive lawyer Diane Lightson to Atlantic City, but a traffic stop sends them and two flamboyant Brazillionaires into the court of a grotesque New Jersey judge with a vendetta against rich outsiders. Chevy Chase is Chris opposite Demi Moore’s Diane, while Dan Aykroyd disappears under heavy makeup as the town’s ancient, vengeful authority and John Candy turns up as the local lawman. What begins as a smug road trip and a flirtation detours into a bizarre small-town ordeal, with junked-up surroundings, off-kilter characters, and a courthouse that seems to run on its own warped rules.
