In modern-day Wolverhampton, two teenage sisters are trying to grow up in a crowded household run by an unconventional single mother who makes her own rules and expects everyone else to keep up. As the oldest girls, Germaine and Aretha are caught between school, siblings, money problems, and the daily chaos of a family that never quite works like anyone else’s. Small humiliations, schemes, and attempts at independence keep turning ordinary moments into battles at home and outside it. Helen Monks and Alexa Davies anchor the sisters’ uneasy push toward adulthood as they figure out how to survive family life without becoming exactly like it.
