Kelsey Grammer is Lt. Commander Tom Dodge, a gifted but unruly Navy officer who gets one last chance to command a submarine after years of wrecking his own record. Instead of a nuclear sub, he’s handed the USS Stingray, a wheezing World War II-era diesel boat barely fit for duty, along with a crew of screwups, pranksters, and loose cannons. With a hostile admiral stacking the deck against him, Dodge is assigned the “enemy” role in a major Navy war game and told to take on the fleet. Lauren Holly and Rob Schneider are among the officers and sailors packed into the Stingray’s cramped hull.
