Returning from a hunting trip, the Henderson family hits something on the road and loads the body into their car, convinced they’ve found a dead Bigfoot. At home, they learn the creature is very much alive. John Lithgow and Melinda Dillon are the rattled adults at the center of the household upheaval, while Harry (Kevin Peter Hall) turns out to be less monster than oversized, smelly houseguest. The film builds its comedy around the mess of hiding a sasquatch in a family home, with the creature’s size, appetite, and awkward manners constantly pushing the Hendersons further out of their ordinary routine.
