Rob Lowe is Danny Martin, who meets Debbie Sullivan after a night out in Chicago and expects a one-night stand, not a relationship. Demi Moore's Debbie is wary of being used, and their attempt to turn a casual hookup into something steadier keeps colliding with old habits, mixed signals, and the running commentary of the people around them. Danny's rowdy best friend Bernie, with Jim Belushi in full goading mode, keeps pushing him away from commitment, while Debbie's roommate Joan (Elizabeth Perkins) has little patience for excuses. The result is a sharp, very 1980s look at dating, sex, and coupledom.
