Back in Queens after the Army, Brian Flanagan takes a bartending job and discovers he’s a natural at turning drinks, charm, and showmanship into a career. Tom Cruise is Brian, a business student whose ambition grows as fast as his popularity behind the bar. Under the tutelage of Bryan Brown’s Doug Coughlin, he learns the tricks of the trade along with a colder, more cynical view of success. A move from New York to Jamaica changes the stakes again, especially when Brian’s plans begin to tangle with Jordan (Elisabeth Shue).
