College student Walter “Gib” Gibson is headed to Los Angeles over Christmas break, chasing a date he’s sure will be waiting for him when he gets there. John Cusack’s Gib gets paired for the trip with Alison Bradbury, an Ivy League student whose guarded, orderly approach clashes with his slacker confidence from the start. As the two make their way across the country through missed rides, bad stops, and mounting frustrations, the trip keeps rearranging what each of them expects. Daphne Zuniga gives Alison a cool, skeptical edge opposite Cusack’s restless energy in Rob Reiner’s 1985 college road comedy.
