Shaun Brumder is a laid-back Orange County surfer with one clear plan: get into Stanford, become a writer, and leave his chaotic home behind. That plan unravels when a guidance counselor sends the wrong paperwork, turning his application into a bureaucratic mess and sending Shaun scrambling for a way back in. Colin Hanks is the increasingly frazzled Shaun, with Jack Black and Catherine O’Hara folded into the family turmoil that keeps making a bad situation worse. The comedy stays close to college panic, suburban drift, and the feeling that every adult around him is somehow adding to the problem.
