After growing up in Switzerland, 13-year-old Marta returns with her mother and older sister to a city in southern Italy and finds herself out of step with a place that is supposed to feel familiar. Yile Yara Vianello is Marta, a reserved teenager who joins catechism classes at the local church and quickly chafes at the games, religious pop songs, and tidy lessons offered there. What begins as preparation for church life turns into a series of small confrontations, as Marta presses against the limits set by her class, the priest, and her family, and tries to make sense of faith on her own terms.
