At a Catholic pilgrimage site in Lourdes, a woman who uses a wheelchair arrives with a group of sick and disabled travelers, following the routines of baths, prayers, and processions that draw people hoping for relief. Christine keeps mostly to herself as volunteers care for her and the other pilgrims, and the trip unfolds through the small hierarchies, awkward kindnesses, and quiet resentments of the group around her. When her condition suddenly changes, the mood shifts. Attention that once passed over her turns intense, and what seemed like a structured, communal journey becomes charged with curiosity, doubt, jealousy, and questions no one can settle.
