After an LAPD job offer falls apart, ex-Army Ranger Jim Davis drifts back into petty crime in South Central Los Angeles, dragging his unemployed best friend along with him. Christian Bale is Jim, a veteran trying to hold onto the idea of a law-enforcement career while drinking, hustling, and making plans for a future with his girlfriend in Mexico. Mike (Freddy Rodríguez) is stuck in the same aimless days, pushed by his girlfriend to find steady work even as Jim keeps pulling him toward quick cash and bad decisions. David Ayer’s film stays close to their friendship as job prospects vanish and the streets keep offering another way forward.
