Los Angeles cab driver Max thinks he’s landed an easy fare when a stranger offers $600 for a night of stops across the city. Jamie Foxx is Max, whose routine shift turns into a hostage ride once Vincent (Tom Cruise) reveals he’s a contract killer working his way down a list. As the cab moves through office towers, nightclubs, and freeways after dark, Max is trapped between Vincent’s control and a police investigation closing in, with Jada Pinkett Smith and Mark Ruffalo on the edges of the night. Michael Mann shoots LA as a city of sodium glow, glass towers, and nearly empty streets.
