Being Julia

ComedyDramaRomance104 min

In the 1930s, celebrated stage actress Julia Lambert has beauty, fame, and a husband who has carefully built her career, but success has curdled into boredom. Annette Bening is Julia, restless behind the polish of theatrical celebrity, while Jeremy Irons is her husband Michael, the producer-manager who keeps everything running. A flirtation with a younger American admirer promises novelty and quickly grows messier, pulling Julia’s private life and public persona into the same drama. Backstage rivalries and drawing-room manners surround a woman who knows exactly how to use performance, onstage and off.
