The Wings of the Dove

DramaRomance102 min

Kate Croy is secretly engaged to Merton Densher, a struggling journalist she knows her formidable aunt will never accept. Helena Bonham Carter’s Kate has social standing but no money; Linus Roache is Merton, equally hemmed in by class and circumstance. When Kate meets Millie (Alison Elliott), a young American heiress traveling through Europe while terminally ill, she begins to imagine a way to keep the man she loves and gain the security she’s been denied. Charlotte Rampling’s Aunt Maude looms over every choice, tightening the film’s triangle of desire, money, and social pressure.
