Hamlet

Drama135 min

After his father’s death, Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, learns that the new king—his uncle Claudius—took the throne by murder, and he begins to plot revenge inside a court already steeped in grief and suspicion. Mel Gibson is the prince, caught between mourning, fury, and doubt, while Glenn Close’s Gertrude is tied to the new order in ways Hamlet cannot accept. Franco Zeffirelli’s adaptation places Shakespeare’s tragedy in a stark medieval court, with Alan Bates bringing a measured menace to Claudius and Helena Bonham Carter appearing as Ophelia, drawn into the fallout around the crown.
