Behind the Screen

ComedyRomance15 min

At a disorderly 1910s movie studio, David keeps props moving and trouble close by until he meets an aspiring actress (Edna Purviance) looking for work just as the stagehands turn against their boss. Charlie Chaplin is David, a prop man’s assistant caught between backstage labor unrest and the chaos of production. As the strike collides with filming, the setup turns into a run of slapstick mishaps involving cumbersome props, a badly handled trap door, and a pie fight that spills into another movie being shot on the lot.
